BossKitty says: Regardless of all the official and unofficial reports gushing in, King George still declares:
We are still in the early stages of our new operations,” the president said . “But the success of the past couple of months have shown that conditions on the ground can change — and they are changing.”
“As President, my most solemn responsibility is to keep the American people safe. So on my orders, good men and women are now fighting the terrorists on the front lines in Iraq. So when I speak to the American people about Iraq, I often emphasize the importance of maintaining our resolve and meeting our objectives.”
August 23: The National Intelligence Estimate‘s updated judgments show that our strategy has improved the security environment in Iraq, but that we still face very tough challenges ahead. While the February NIE concluded that conditions in Iraq were worsening, today’s key judgments clearly show that the military’s counterinsurgency strategy, fully operational since mid-summer, has begun to slow the rapidly increasing violence and patterns of that violence we have been seeing in Iraq.
President George W. Bush statement on the War in Iraq during a visit Monday, April 23, 2007, by Gen. David Petraeus, Commander of the Multinational Force-Iraq, to the White House. Said the President, “I will strongly reject an artificial timetable withdrawal and/or Washington politicians trying to tell those who wear the uniform how to do their job.”
“These people have sworn allegiance to the very same man who ordered the attack on September the 11th, 2001: Osama bin Laden,” the president said. “And they want us to leave parts of the world, like Iraq, so they can establish a safe haven from which to spread their poisonous ideology. And we are steadfast in our determination to not only protect the American people, but to protect these young democracies.”

Al-Maliki appeared stung by the recent series of critical statements about his government, including one from President Bush, who said he was frustrated that al-Maliki had failed to make progress on political benchmarks.
BossKitty says: Bush wants the US to look at progress in Baghdad. What he wants us to ignore is the fact the Baghdad violence has scattered to outlying areas that have been relatively stable until now. Point to the increased bombings in the northern sections near Kurdistan. The “insurgents” and sectarian violence are finding easy targets in relatively unprotected areas. There isn’t an army large enough to chase them everywhere they scatter. The very Iraqis we verbally defend are the ones we are spreading terror to. Don’t you know they love us for that. They have no place to go. Horror stories abound from Iraqis trying to flee violence. They are turned away at borders, demeaned and exploited. Iraq’s neighbors are sick of refugees. We have become complicit in Iraqi genocide.
